MACON, Ga. – Jacksonville freshman Jarvis Haywood (Charlotte, N.C.) capped off his late season surge by earning his third A-Sun Newcomer of the Week award this season.  

Haywood pick up the honor following a week in which he averaged 18.5 points, five rebounds and 2.5 assists in the Dolphins two contests. The freshman guard begin the week on Thursday with a career best 26 points at Lipscomb. Haywood, who added seven rebounds and three assists in the game, became the first JU freshman since Ben Smith in 2007 to score over 20 points in a game with his performance.

Against NKU on Saturday, he added 11 points to wrap a nine game swing in which he is averaged 14.7 points and 5.3 rebounds.

Haywood and the Dolphins return to action on Thursday at 8:30 pm in the A-Sun quarterfinals against USC Upstate.
