It didn’t take long for the Gators (5-8) to get on the board. Casey Turgeon (Palm Harbor, Fla.) hit the second pitch of the night over the left field wall to put the Gators up 1-0.
The Dolphins answered back with a single run in the third. Zac Houck (Orange Park, Fla.) had a one out single and then advanced to third on a failed pick off attempt at first. One out later Alex McRae (West Allis, Wisc.) singled scoring Houck.
The Dolphins added two runs in the fourth. Ethan Loosen (Uniondale, NY) had a one out single and Kris Molter (Jacksonville, Fla.) hammered his first collegiate homer to left to put the Dolphins up 3-1.
The Gators then answered back with three runs in the top half of the sixth inning. The inning included two Gator hits a wild pitch and two costly Dolphin errors putting the Gators in front 4-3.
The Dolphins would not go quietly adding two runs in the bottom of the inning on two Gator errors bringing the Dolphins back to a 5-4 lead.
UF then scored two more runs in the in the seventh on two hits a wild pitch and a passed ball. They added two insurance runs in the ninth to round out the scoring at 8-5.
Houck finished the night with three hits while Molter finished with two. Molter and McRae both finished the night with two RBI for the Dolphins.
The Defensive play of the year was made by freshman Michael Babb (Jacksonville, Fla.) when he robbed a sure triple from Turgeon in the fifth inning and turned and fired a strike to first base to double off Cory Reid (Port St. Lucie, Fla.).
Zach Gordon (St. Petersburg, Fla.) started for JU and pitched 5 2/3 innings allowing three earned runs in a no decision. The loss went Josh Baker (Sussez, Wisc.) dropping him to (0-2) on the season.
The Dolphins will be back in action again tomorrow night against the same University of Florida Gators. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. from Gainesville and the game can be heard live on FM 92.5 radio.
