Dolphins defeat UCF Knights 7-5 in matinee

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. ---- The JU Dolphins defeated the UCF Knights 7-5 in daytime spring break action from John Sessions Stadium.

Heavy rains delayed the start of the game by over an hour but the Dolphins came out quickly when the sun shined through.

Jake Huxtable (Winter Springs, Fla./Santa Fe College) singled with one out in the first. Nathan Koslowski (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) followed with a single to left moving Huxtable to third. Huxtable then scored on a wild pitch to put the Dolphins up 1-0.

The Dolphin bats erupted in the bottom of the third. Huxtable walked. Koslowski singled to left. Drew Luther (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton College) reached safely on an error while sacrificing, loading the bases. Brady North (Tampa, Fla./Hillsboro CC) then singled to right scoring two. Kris Molter (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) followed with a sacrifice fly scoring Luther. Ethan Loosen (Uniondale, N.Y./FSCJ) singled advancing North to third. Loosen was then cut down stealing. Garrett Ruckel (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep) walked setting the stage for Dylan Dillard (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola) who promptly doubled to left scoring North and Ruckle to put the Dolphins up 6-0.

The Dolphins added a solo run in the fifth. Huxtable led of with a double and Koslowski followed with an RBI single to center.

Senior starting pitcher Wes Torrez (Naperville, Ill./Johnson County CC) pitched 5 2/3 innings of solid baseball to even his record at (1-1). The senior Torrez was impressive allowing only one earned run in his best start of the 2013 season.

The Knights made some noise in the top half of the seventh scoring three runs on one hit and two Dolphin errors.

Adam Maxon (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo) came in and shut down the Knights in the ninth for his second save of the season.

The Dolphins will be back in action as they start Atlantic Sun Conference play on Friday. First pitch is set for 7:00 pm from John Sessions Stadium and can be seen live on ASUN TV or followed on the radio at FM 92.5.
