JU Rowing Competes at Governor's Cup

FELLSMERE, Fla.—The JU men’s and women’s rowing teams returned to action Saturday when they raced in the Governor’s Cup on Canal 54 in Fellsmere, Fla.  Participating schools included Florida Tech, Barry, University of Central Oklahoma, Columbia, and Nova Southeastern.

The first event of the day was the men’s Varsity 8 in which JU finished in 6:11.3 good for second in the flight and fourth overall. 

Following the completion of the Varsity 8 race, the men’s Varsity 4 posted a fifth place finish in a time of 7:04.7.

The women’s Varsity 8 finished second in its flight in a time of 7:22.9 which was sixth overall.  They finished just .1 seconds behind the fifth place Florida Tech team.

The second women’s Varsity 8 was just one of two entries in the event and finished the course in 7:53.9.

The women’s Varsity 4 followed with a 8:54.8 which was good for second in its flight and seventh overall in the event. 

The second round of races led off once again with the men’s Varsity 8.

JU posted a time of 6:08.1 which was less than 10 seconds off the event winner.

The men’s second Varsity 8 followed with a time of 6:25.0 while the third Varsity 8 finished in 6:40.9.

The women’s Varsity 8 returned to action with the number one boat finishing in 7:21.9 beating Florida Tech by nearly 15 seconds.  The second Varsity 8 finished in 8:04.0

The final race for the Dolphins featured the women’s Varsity 4 in which JU finished in a time of 9:11.7

Both the men’s and women’s teams return to action April 5, when they take part in the FIRA Regatta in Sarasota, Fla.
