No. 3 North Carolina Pulls Away From Jacksonville In The Second Half
Dolphins have four game win streak snapped
CHAPPEL HILL, N.C. – Matched up against their fourth top 10 opponent of the year, the Jacksonville women’s lacrosse team was unable to slow down No. 3 ranked North Carolina in the second half on Friday. The Dolphins trailed 6-3 at halftime, before the Tar Heels used a 9-0 second half run to pull away for a 16-4 victory.
Senior Amanda Hurley (Columbus, Ga.) scored a pair of goals for JU (9-4) which returns to action on Sunday for Senior Day as the Dolphins look to secure at least a share of the Atlantic Sun regular season title against Detroit.
Hurley’s first score of the game came seven minutes into the contest and evened the score at 1-1. The Tar Heels then ripped off four goals over the next three minutes before Ali Hoffman (Gambrills, Md.) capitalized on a man-up opportunity for the Dolphins midway through the period. UNC countered less than two minute later, but Hurley would strike again for JU in the final minutes of the half. Hurley’s second goal of the game and her team leading 28th of the season trimmed the deficit to 6-3 despite the Dolphins being out shot 12-5 in the period.
North Carolina (12-2) would then open up the second half with a 9-0 before Nikki Erdely (Cumming, Ga.) finally put the Dolphins on the board with five minutes remaining.
