GAINESVILLE, Fl.—The JU track & field team took part in the Tom Jones Invitational on Saturday on the campus of the University of Florida.
Senior Bienna Freeman continued her stellar season winning the 800m in near record time.
Freeman and teammate Joane Pierre took first and second in the event with times of 2:04.47 and 2:06.38. For Freeman it was the second consecutive race she finished in under 2:05.00.
Junior Svenja Meyer had a nice meet winning the 3,000m steeplechase in a time of 11:02.34.
The Dolphins had a pair of fifth place finishes in the discus and hammer throw courtesy of Kree Clark, and Akeela Bravo. Clark’s toss of 45.05m in the discus edged out Sally Marie Futch (42.54m) and Bravo (41.46m). In the hammer throw, it was Bravo who had the team best toss of 48.28m. Futch finished seventh with a throw of 47.40m.
Shanique Walker placed fifth in the triple jump with a longest attempt of 11.71m.
Shadaey Campbell was eighth in the 400m after running a time of 56.62.
The Dolphins 4x100m relay team of Campbell, Walker, Courtney Walker, and Latonya Payne finished sixth overall with a time of 46.59.
JU will now get 20 days off before it attempts to capture its eighth straight Atlantic Sun title when the Dolphins take part in the A-Sun Championships on May 10.
