The Dolphins jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first inning. Zachary Houck (Orange Park, Fla./Eagles View Academy) led off with a triple down the right field line. Dylan Dillard (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola) then followed with a sacrifice fly to deep left center scoring Houck easily.
The Norse answered back with four runs on three hits and one Dolphin error in the bottom half of the second to jump to a 4-1 lead. That is all that Norse starting pitcher Blake Bagshaw (1-7) would need, The right hander scattered five hits in nine innings allowing only two Dolphin runs.
The Norse added a run in the bottom of the third on two hits to increase the lead to 5-1.
The only threat the Dolphins could mount was in the ninth Dillard reached on a one out double and scored when Nathan Koslowski (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) singled to cut the lead to 5-2. That was as close as it would get.
Jeff Tanner (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) (0-2) was tagged with the loss after pitching 1 2/3 innings allowing four runs (none earned) while walking one and striking out one.
Wes Torrez (Naperville, Ill./Johnson County CC) was excellent in relief for the Dolphins going five innings allowing only two hits while striking out one.
The Dolphins will be back in action on Tuesday evening at 6pm from John Sessions as the #8 ranked Florida State Seminoles come to town. You can follow all the action on www.judolphins.com
