Men’s Rowing Misses Conference Title by One Point

WEST WINDSOR, N.J.—The JU men’s rowing team finished second place at the MAAC Rowing Championships Saturday at Lake Mercer. Their 149 team points left them just one shy of first place Marist. 

The Dolphins won four out of the eight events to finish second in front of Iona (113), Fairfield (109), Loyola (39), Canisius (20), and Manhattan (17).

The Varsity 8 of David Waugh (coxswain), Chase Rowe, Brian Cosmillo, Jeremy Sobiech, Nathan Esterline, Scott Waitley, Preston Weinard, Jared Low, and Scott Del Vecchio won with a time of 6:21.26 to barely edge the second place boat of Marist by .54 seconds.

The second JU win came in the Men’s Freshmen 8.  Angelo Santiago (coxswain), Andrew Stebbins, Chris Searcy, Garth Greene, Ellis Harr, Billy Macomber, Erik Fournier, Tom Harrison, and Anthony Rzepka wion with a time 6:29.30. They beat the second place finisher by nearly nine seconds.

The Freshmen 4 of Santiago (coxswain), Stebbins, Harr, Greene, and Esterline won in a time of 7:01.22. 

The final JU victory came in the Junior Varisty 4.  They posted the only time under seven minutes and won by nearly nine seconds with a time of 6:59.61.

The Dolphins will now turn their attention to the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa. on May 10.
