Volleyball Adds Two For 2013 Season
Dolphins begin indoor season August 31
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University head volleyball coach Michelle Collier has added two student-athletes for the upcoming 2013 season. Mayara Prestes (Porto Alegre, Brazil) and Lauren Homrich (Fountain Hills, Ariz.) are set join the Dolphins program as part of the 2013 incoming class.
“I am super excited about Lauren and Mayara joining our family! They are both great young women who have been playing volleyball at a high level for long time,” said Collier who begins her second season at the helm of the program this fall.
“They will make an immediate impact in our program and we are looking forward to seeing them on a Dolphins uniform soon.”
Prestes comes to Jacksonville after playing the past two seasons at Northeastern Junior College in Stetling, Colorado. A 5’8” outside hitter, she led the team with 2.26 kills and 5.71 digs per set last season despite playing in just 16 matches. As a freshman in 2011 she ranked 25th in the country with 3.42 kills per set, racking up 356 kills on the season while leading the team to a 25-10 record. She also added 355 digs and 49 aces on the year. A native of Brazil, she will have two year of eligibility remaining.
Standing at 5’10”, Homrich joins the program as a freshman from Scottsdale Christian Academy where she was a three-year varsity starter under Coach Julie Southwick. As a senior she helped lead the team to a 25-5 overall record and a state quarterfinal appearance. Named All-State Second Team by the Arizona Republic, she was also a 4A all-section first team pick while posting a .337 hitting percentage and averaging 2.9 kills per game. MaxPreps ranked her as the No. 2 outside hitter in Arizona for Division 4. Homrich played her club volleyball for the AZ Desert Sky and AZ United programs.
The Dolphins are schedule to begin the 2013 indoor season Aug. 29-Sept. 1 at a tournament hosted by Florida Atlantic.
