JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—Charlene Charles, a senior athlete on the JU indoor and outdoor track & field teams, was voted to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Women’s Track/Cross Country for District 4, as selected by the district’s members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
With her selection to the District 4 team, Charles will be on the national ballot for Academic All-America along with each of the other 8 geographic All-District selections.
Charles, a communications major, has compiled a 3.83 grade-point average as a student-athlete at JU. She helped lead the Dolphins to their eighth straight indoor and outdoor Atlantic Sun titles this season earning Most Outstanding Field Performer honors for the indoor season. Charles became the first athlete in A-Sun history to win the indoor long jump three times and was one of only 16 athletes in the country to qualify for the pentathlon at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships. After being unable to complete the heptathlon competition due to suffering a severe Achilles injury, Charles missed the entire outdoor season but returned in the A-Sun Championships to win the heptathlon with 4,640 points.
The Academic All-America Team will be announced on June 27.
