Dolphin Duo in Action Wednesday at NCAA Outdoor Championships
Senior runners Bienna Freeman and Joane Pierre take to the track Wednesday to compete in the preliminary round of the 800 meters at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Freeman and Pierre advanced to the final rounds in the 800m after each finishing third in their semifinal heats at the East Regional to automatically qualify for the finals in Eugene.
Freeman’s time of 2:07.46 in the semifinal has placed her in heat #1 on Wednesday. She will face stiff competition as LSU’s Natoya Goule, the overall top qualifier (2:01.04), is in her heat.
Pierre ran close to a personal best in the semifinal by posting a 2:06.71. She is set to race in third and final heat of the preliminary round.
The top two runners in each heat along with the next two fastest times will advance to the finals on Friday.
“It is a great accomplishment to advance to the NCAA championships,” said Dolphin head coach Ron Grigg. “All of the athletes understand the task ahead. They are ready to produce an excellent effort.”
The 800m is scheduled for 7:30 pm eastern time. Fans can keep track of the action by clicking the live results link or watch by clicking on the live stream link.
