JU to host Fin Fever Hoops Fest Friday
Fans can officially kick off the 2012-13 season with the JU men’s and women’s basketball teams Friday in the inaugural Fin Fever Hoops Fest in Swisher Gymnasium.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. with the first 500 fans receiving a special JU towel. There will also be free pizza for fans while supplies last.

The event officially kicks off at 7 p.m. with a Faculty/Staff basketball game coached by men’s coach Cliff Warren and women’s coach Jill Dunn. Following the contest, there will be a pep talk by the coaches before introducing the two squads.

Fans will have a chance to be involved with special on-court contests for prizes and have an autograph session with the two teams to wrap the event.

“We are very excited about the energy surrounding both teams heading into the year,” JU Director Marketing and Promotions Director Brian Freshley said. “We want to really reach out to our fans and students to build on that excitement.

“Fin Fever is a project that involves both of our teams, the athletic department and one of our sport management classes at JU. The students have taken our vision and are running with it to create a great pre-season tip off event.”

The JU men’s team opens the season on the road Nov. 9 at Georgia before hosting Trinity Baptist College Nov. 13, in the Veterans Memorial Arena. The women’s squad plays three of their first five games at home beginning with Florida A&M on Nov. 9 at 11:30 a.m.
