Strong Second Half Powers Jacksonville To 13-8 Win at VMI

Dolphins win school record fourth straight and improve to 4-0 in the MAAC

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Jacksonville men’s lacrosse team powered past VMI in the second half on the way to a 13-8 victory today at Drill Field #2. The Dolphins extend their school record winning streak to four straight with the victory while keeping their undefeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in tact at 4-0.

JU (6-3; 4-0) our scored VMI (0-10; 0-4) 8-3 in the second half to break open a 5-5 halftime tie. The bulk of the damage was done in the third quarter as the Dolphins forced nine of the Keydets 22 turnovers. Five different players scored during the period for JU which ended with the Dolphins grabbing a 10-6 lead.

Junior goalie Pete DeLuca (Millersville, Pa.) then helped close the door in the fourth quarter for the Dolphins recording seven of his 15 saves.

Sophomore Ari Waffle (Manlius, N.Y.) and senior Cam Mann (Hamilton, Ont.) each had three goals and an assist to lead the offensive attack. Kyle Rebman (Baldwin, N.Y.) added two goals and an assist while Rob Wertz (Lancaster, Pa.) had two goals.

JU returns to action next Saturday at home in a first place showdown with Marist.
