Dolphins wrap up preseason with a win

Justin Syzymkowiak scored a goal with 44 seconds remaining in the second half to give JU the 3-2 win over the Flagler College Saints Saturday night in Jacksonville.  The win gives the Dolphins a 2-1 record in preseason play.

JU found itself in a hole early as Flagler’s Marco Padilla scored a goal 29 seconds into the game.  Padilla gathered the ball off of a throw in and sent a strike past the outstretched hands of Dolphin goal keeper Gavin Carlin.

The Dolphins were able to answer in the 38th minute when Rene Reyes was able to head in a ball from Guilherme Brandao’s corner kick service.  Saints keeper Camp Bissell got a hand on the service but could not clear the ball as Reyes was able to head the ricochet in to tie the game.

Two minutes into the second half, JU took the lead off the goal by junior Nick Rodriguez.  He was able to score the sliding goal off of a well-placed flick from Reyes.  The goal was the second in as many days for Rodriguez as he scored one of JU’s two goals in the win over Thomas.

After the Saints were able to find an equalizer a few minutes later it looked as if the game was headed for overtime.  Syzymkowiak made sure that didn’t happen as he was able to score from well outside the box.  A Dolphin corner kick sent the ball into the box when Syzymkowiak intercepted the attempted clearance by Flagler.  He then sent a blast past Bissell sealing the win for JU.

With preseason play now completed, the Dolphins turn their attention to the regular season where they open up at home against Georgia State.  JU is set to take on the Panthers at the Ashley Sports Complex on August 24 at 7:00 pm.
