Dolphins fall in the 89th minute

East Tennessee State was able to get the go-ahead goal with little over a minute left in regulation to defeat the Dolphins 2-1 Sunday in Johnson City, Tennessee.

The Bucs were able to get the game winner off of a free kick that was awarded just outside the edge of the box.  ETSU’s Nate Hodges curled the ball in to the left side of the net passed the outstretched hands of Dolphin goal keeper Gavin Carlin.

The Dolphins fell behind early in the first half as ETSU was able to get the game’s first score less than 20 minutes into play.

Jacksonville would then use a free kick of its own to knot the game at 1-1 just ten minutes later.  Forward Matheus Saroli struck the ball from jus outside the box and passed the ETSU goal keeper for his third goal of the season.

The Dolphins looked as if they were going to play their second consecutive overtime match before the Buccaneers were able to add the late goal.

In a game that featured terrible conditions, Carlin played well for the Dolphins coming up with 11 saves on 29 ETSU shots.

JU (2-9-1, 1-2-0 A-Sun) will now come back to the Ashley Sports Complex where it will host its first conference home game against Northern Kentucky on October 14.
