Women’s hoops battles Clemson Sunday
For the second time this week, the JU women’s basketball team will return to the state of South Carolina for a contest against Clemson Sunday in Littlejohn Coliseum at 2 p.m.
The Dolphins (3-3), who played at South Carolina State Wednesday, is facing an ACC opponent on the schedule for the fifth time in the last six years.
“We have a tough matchup ahead of us,” JU head coach Jill Dunn said. “Even though they have struggled, Clemson still has good ACC-caliber players so we need to bring our A game. I know our team will be ready for the challenge.”
On Wednesday, the Dolphins shot a season-low 28.1 (16-57) field goal percentage en route to 68-45 loss. JU was doomed by a sluggish second half that saw them make only 7 of 29 attempts from the floor.
Senior Maggie Wilson stayed above the fray with a team-best 14 points on 4 of 6 attempts from beyond the arc. Senior Tracie Sneed added 13 points, while Wilson and junior Jade Cargill each recorded six boards.
Despite being held scoreless Wednesday, Cargill still leads the team in scoring (10.5), rebounds (8.8) and steals (15). Wilson and Sneed are tied for second with a 10.2 scoring average.
The Lady Tigers (0-6) dropped a 52-49 decision Wednesday at Indiana. Five of Clemson’s six losses have been by six points or less.
Danaejah Grant leads the Clemson offense with a 13.7 average, while Nikki Dixon is second with 9.0 points a game. Jonquel Jones is first in rebounds at 9.0 boards a contest.
This is the first meeting between the two schools all-time. JU’s lone wins against the ACC have come against Miami (2008) and Wake Forest (2010).
