Jennifer Borocz named head women’s golf coach at JU
Having put together a stellar playing career and a background in teaching golf, JU has named Jennifer Borocz as the new head coach of the women’s golf team.
Borocz, from near St. Paul, Minn., has extensive experience on the professional level as a Class A member of the PGA.
After graduating from Sam Houston State University, which she attended on a golf scholarship, Borocz enrolled in the PGA Golf Management program where she completed 19 months of internships and completed 16 months with the TPC Network.
“We are fortunate to have someone of Jennifer’s ability and experience to lead our women’s golf program,” said JU associate director of athletics Joel Lamp. “We have the pieces in place to build a championship caliber program and with Jennifer’s leadership and vision, we have the potential to be an annual contender for championships.”
She was elected to PGA membership in June, 2009, and worked as an assistant pro at TPC Twin Cities followed by a stint at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach. She was hired at TPC Sawgrass full time in March of 2010.
During her tenure with the TPC Network, Borocz worked in a variety of capacities including golf instruction to players of all ages.
“I am very excited to join the JU family as head coach for the women’s golf team,’’ she said. “I've always wanted to be a head coach and am very appreciative of this opportunity. There is great potential to build a championship program with the facilities we have access to. I look forward to the future of the Women's golf program here at JU. ’’
In addition to her teaching background, Borocz has numerous PGA Chapter tournament wins to her credit.
She has won the Winter Championships Women’s Stroke Play Championship, the North Florida Section Women’s Championship twice, the North Florida Section Assistant Championship and the Minnesota Section Luther Pro Series Event among others.
During her collegiate career she was a four-year letter winner, team captain and led Sam Houston State to the Southland Conference title in 2004 and 2007.
Borocz also won myriad individual awards while at Sam Houston State.
In 2008 she was Southland Conference Women’s Golf Athlete of the Year and an All-Conference first team selection along with being team Most Valuable Player (she also won that award in 2006). She was an All-Conference second team selection in 2007.
She was individual medalist and runner-up in numerous events and was named to all-academic and all-scholar teams from 2006-2008.
Borocz’s husband, Matt, is Senior Head Golf Professional at TPC Sawgrass and they recently had a baby boy, Carter.
