Dolphins Drop Series Finale

FORT MYERS. Fla.—The JU softball team fell in the series finale against Florida Gulf Coast Sunday, losing 7-5.

The Dolphins (30-15, 11-8 A-Sun) jumped out to an early lead but once again were unable to seal the victory as the Eagles (30-15. 11-6 A-Sun) were able to come from behind for the third straight game.

JU scored in the top of the first to jump out to a 2-0 lead.

With the bases loaded, Ashley Simon was hit by a pitch to score the game’s opening run.  Morgan Kibler followed with a walk to give JU the two run lead.

The Eagles tied things up in the bottom of the third with a two run home run.

Singles from Victoria Brown and Codi Kelly as well as an error by FGCU allowed the Dolphins to score three runs in the top of the fifth to lead 5-2.

The JU lead would be short lived as the Eagles would counter with five runs in the bottom half of the inning.

A JU error and a three run home run doomed the Dolphins and allowed the Eagles to take the 7-5 lead.

The Dolphins could not manage anymore runs after falling behind.

Jacksonville will look to break its five-game losing streak when it travels to Kennesaw State to take on the Owls for a three-game series starting April 20.
