Dolphins take top spots in 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay at UNF Spring Break Open

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--  JU finished first, second, and third and first and second in the 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay on a cold and windy day the UNF Spring Break Open in Jacksonville.

LaTonya Payne (1:01.34), Shanique Walker (1:02.21), and Alexis Taylor (1:05.03) took the top three spots in the 400m hurdles in their first races of the outdoor season.

The Dolphins entered two teams in the 4x400m relay and finished first and second.  The team of Walker, Shadaey Campbell, Courtney Walker, and Taylor just edged out the team of Payne, Joane Pierre, Charlene Charles, and Bienna Freeman.  The teams finished in times of 3:53.66 and 3:54.24.

Chynna Chung opened her 2013 outdoor season running 26.16 in the 200m.

“The cold and wind made the day less than enjoyable for the athletes, but we showed our strength and depth in a few events,” said Dolphin head coach Ron Grigg.  “It’s now time to get back to serious training for about a month before we return to competition.”

With Kree Clark and Akeela Bravo’s first and second finish in the discus on Friday, the Dolphins took the top two spots in three events at the meet.

The team will now get almost a month off from competition as they do not return to action until March 29 at the UNF Invitational.
