Three Named to Academic All-Conference team

MACON, Ga.—Fresh off of their record eighth straight Atlantic Sun conference indoor track & field title, three Dolphins were named to the Academic All-Conference team.  Seniors Charlene Charles and Bienna Freeman along with junior Svenja Meyer received the honor for their work in the classroom and on the track. 

“Charlene, Svenja and Bienna are among the many women in our program that excel in both their academic and athletic endeavors,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg.  “We are so proud of the way they represent their team and their university.”

Charles was a unanimous pick for the team after winning the long jump for the third time in her career and finishing second in the high jump.  She also qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the indoor pentathlon.  She is a communications major with a 3.81 GPA.

Freeman received the honors after repeating as champion in the 800 meters.  She set a new meet record with a time of 2:09.92.  Freeman also was a part of the record setting 4x400m relay team that won in a time of 3:45.49.  She is an exercise science and sociology major with a 3.50 GPA.

Meyer was named to the team after setting the school record in the 3000 meters to finish fourth with a time of 10:01.58.  She also finished sixth in the 5000 meters.  She is an accounting and international business major with a 3.87 GPA.
