Lipscomb erased a tough Friday loss with a 3-1 win (18-25, 25-22, 22-25, 21-25) over the JU volleyball team in A-Sun action Saturday at Swisher Gymnasium.

Jewell Dobson posted 22 kills and five blocks in leading the Lady Bisons (12-10, 9-2) to the victory. Kaycee Green (16) and Lauren Ford were also in double-digits in kills, while Stephanie Rex tallied 24 digs.

“We couldn’t get ahead too much today,” JU head coach Michelle Collier said. “We played well, but they countered with runs at the right time to keep us from being successful. Our goal is to keep fighting each match and we plan to do that again Tuesday.”

Freshman Sammie Strausbaugh led the Dolphins (4-20, 2-9) offense with 14 kills and 12 digs. Junior Alyssa Robertson posted 11 kills off the bench and freshman Thayla Pagan had 14 digs.

In the first set, the Lady Bisons picked up an early 11-4 lead on a service error. The Dolphins cut the deficit to 11-7 from a kill by junior Kendall Courtney, but the Lady Bisons used a 9-2 run to build a 20-9 advantage. Despite a late JU run, Lipscomb used a Green kill and service error to grab the set for the 1-0 lead.

In the second set, a kill from JU freshman Emily Laskelle capped a 7-4 stretch to tie it at 11. The Lady Bisons pulled away with an 18-16 lead on two Green kills. JU tied it three times before benefiting from two errors and a Robertson kill to win the set.

In the third set, the Lady Bisons opened with an 11-7 advantage from a Ford kill. Lipscomb used a Green kill to extend the lead to 16-11. The Dolphins followed with a 6-1 run, capped on an attack error, to tie the set at 17. Dobson recorded three kills in a 5-0 stretch to put Lipscomb up 22-17. JU cut the deficit to two points twice before Green ended the set on a kill for a 2-1 Lipscomb lead.

In the fourth set, the teams traded leads until JU took a 17-14 advantage from a Green attack error. Robertson put JU up 19-17 on a kill, but Dobson recorded three kills down the stretch for a 22-20 Lipscomb lead. Strausbaugh had a kill to make it a 23-21 JU deficit, but two attack errors gave Lipscomb the win.

The Dolphins close the current home stand with Stetson Tuesday in an A-Sun match at Swisher Gymnasium. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
