Senior Kathryn Kane and sophomore Kendall Courtney each were named to the A-Sun Sand Volleyball Scholar-Athlete team.

Kane and Courtney each posted better than a 3.9 GPA in the classroom to earn the honors for the inaugural sand campaign. They were both named to the indoor Scholar-Athlete team in the fall.

“I am happy for Kathryn and Kendall,” JU head coach Michelle Collier said. “These are two great student-athletes who are deserving of this award. We will miss Kathryn, but I know she will tackle her next phase of life very well. I look forward to working with Kendall and the rest of our team in the fall.”

Kane played in all five matches and three tournaments during JU’s first sand volleyball season. She teamed with freshman Sammie Strausbaugh towards the end of the year and earned A-Sun Pair of the Week honors on April 18 after the duo finished fifth overall at the Fiesta at Siesta Key Tournament. She also earned flight wins against Stetson (4/10) and Florida Atlantic (3/29).

Outside of competing, she earned three-time Atlantic Sun All-Academic honors, while also being named to the President’s Honor Roll twice and the Dean’s List once. Kane graduated from JU with a degree in physical therapy.

Courtney played at the No 1 position with freshman Cari Whitmire for the inaugural sand season. The duo earned all-tournament honors at the A-Sun Championship and the UNF Invitational. Courtney and Whitmire were also named the A-Sun Pair of the Week for their efforts at the UNF Invitational. The duo finished the duals schedule by beating the top flights from UNF and Stetson who were selected for the NCAA Championships.

As a freshman in the classroom, she earned A-Sun all-academic and Dean’s list honors.
