JU to host three A-Sun championships
Jacksonville University will play host to three Atlantic Sun championships in the upcoming school year.
The full schedule and locations for the 2012-13 A-Sun championships were announced Thursday by the league office, after the membership recently approved several sites.
The JU women’s golf team plays host to its A-Sun championship April 14-16, 2013, at Jekyll Island Golf Course in Georgia.
A few days later, the Dolphin volleyball team will be the host team for the sand volleyball championships on the JU campus. The tournament is scheduled for April 19-20.
JU’s D.B. Milne Field will be the site of the first-ever A-Sun women’s lacrosse championship tournament April 26-28. The JU women’s lacrosse team, 2012 champion of the National Lacrosse Conference, is hosting.
“We are honored and excited to be the host team for three A-Sun events,’’ JU interim Director of Athletics Joel Lamp said. “We know we will put on first-class events and this will give the community the opportunity to see Division I athletes in the championship arena.’’
Florida Gulf Coast University was selected as the host for the 2012 Cross Country Championship at the Buckingham Property Course on Oct. 27th. The men’s soccer championship shifts gears as the entire tournament will be played at the home of the top-seeded team from Nov. 7-11th.
Mercer University and Hawkins Arena are tabbed for its fourth-straight year as the host of the General Shale Basketball Championships from Mar. 6-9th.
Following the basketball tournament, the month of April is packed with five championships including the JU events. For the second-straight season, the Men’s Golf Championship will be held at The Legends Course at Chateau Elan from Apr. 22-24th.
Lipscomb was awarded the 2013 Atlantic Sun Softball Championship (May 8-11th) at LU’s Draper Diamond. For the fifth-straight year, North Florida and Hodges Stadium will host the Outdoor Track & Field Championship, but shifts to a new date as the Ospreys host the event from May 10-11th.
Stetson wraps up the championship calendar by welcoming eight teams to the Baseball Championship from May 22-25 at Melching Field at Conrad Park.
