Game 23: WBB at NKU
Playing Atlantic Sun foes in the second go around, every team has something to prove and the Jacksonville University women’s basketball team is no different as they push to finish in the top three of the conference.
In game two of this week’s road swing, the Dolphins will play Northern Kentucky (13-10, 9-3) on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m.JU defeated the Norse, 67-56, at Swisher Gymnasium and leads the all-time series with a 2-1 tip.
JU’S LAST OUTING: COMING UP SHORT
Trailing by as much as 16 in the early goings of the second half, the Dolphins refused to settle and worked to tie the contest at 61-all with 11:11 remaining in the contest. After the stalemate, the Dolphins gave up three unanswered three-pointers to allow the Bisons to pull away for good. The 94-79 loss was JU’s second when shooting between 40 and 50 percent from the field. Knocking down 29-of-62 (46.8 percent) from the floor as a team, guards Queen Alford and Sherranda Reddick accounted for nearly half of JU’s points as they contributed 20 each.
Evenly paced with JU in both scoring and defense, Northern Kentucky will be an interesting opponent. Senior guard Kayla Thacker recorded her second double-double of the season to lead the NKU to a 78-65 victory over North Florida last Thursday. Melody Doss leads the squad with 15.2 PPG and 7.3 RPG which is ranked fourth and eighth in the conference, respectively.
Jacksonville returns to historic Swisher Gymnasium next week as they host Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson. First up will be the Eagles on Thursday, Jan. 20 in a 5 p.m. tipoff.
