Women’s Golf Recruit Wins New Mexico State Title
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Incoming women’s golf freshman Shania Berger wrapped up her high school career earlier this week with a title at the New Mexico A-AAA State Championship, held at the New Mexico State University Golf Course in Las Cruces.

After opening with an even-par round of 72 on Monday to take a three-shot lead after 18 holes, Berger closed out the two-day event with a round of 73 on Tuesday to take home the championship by two strokes. As a team, Socorro High School tied for the title but fell to second in a one-hole playoff.

“Congratulations to Shania on her Individual Medalist at the New Mexico High School State Championships,” said Head Coach Jen Borocz. “This was a great way for her to end her high school career. She has a lot of momentum leading into her summer schedule and will be ready to compete when she arrives here in the fall.”

Berger will join Maria Juliana Fueyo as the new members of the Dolphins squad for next season. Jacksonville is coming off an Atlantic Sun Championship in which it tied for fourth place, and returns nearly every key member of the team, including First Team All-Atlantic Sun selection Jessica Welch.
