DALLAS, Texas - After taking their first game of the day, freshman Sean Green had his best performance of the season but the Dolphins could not take the series as the JU baseball team fell to Dallas Baptist, 2-0, Saturday afternoon in Game Two of a doubleheader at Patriot Field.
JU (26-26) was shutout for the third time this season after leaving six runners on base and finishing with a season-low three hits.
DBU (32-16) won the series after tallying a game-high nine hits but also left a game-high nine runners on base.
"We got another great effort from our starter, this time Sean Green, but we couldn't support him offensively," said JU head coach Terry Alexander. "Our starters had a tremendous weekend and it's encouraging to see with an important conference weekend coming up."
Green (1-6) was tagged with the loss after allowing two runs on nine hits with five walks and four strikeouts in a season-best 6.2 innings. Freshman Matt Tomshaw hurled 1.1 innings of perfect relief to end the game.
Ryan Millard (4-2) got the win after hurling 6.1 scoreless innings in which he allowed three hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Tyson Bagley notched his 10th save of the year after striking out two batters in a perfect ninth.
Ryan Enos finished 3-for-3 to lead the Patriots while Trevor Head provided the big blow in the game with a two-run homer.
The Patriots ended a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth, 2-0, when Head hit a 2-1 pitch over the left center wall with a man on base.
JU will conclude the non-conference portion of its schedule on Tuesday as the Dolphins host Georgia Southern at 6 p.m. at John Sessions Stadium.
