Kennesaw, Ga. – Jacksonville University volleyball improved its road record to 4-2 with a 3-1 win at Kennesaw State Friday night (25-23, 25-20, 21-25, 25-17). JU rose to 4-1 in the Atlantic Sun and 13-2 overall, while Kennesaw State dropped to 1-4 and 6-9, respectively.

JU held a 2-0 set advantage before Kennesaw State won the third set 25-21. KSU scored four straight from down 5-6 to up 8-6. JU tallied one and the Owls responded again with five more points to up their edge from 9-7 to 13-7. JU came back within one sitting 18-19, but KSU outlasted to end JU’s shutout.

In the final set, the two were tied at 12-12 until JU recorded three points for a 15-12 pull on three attack errors. KSU then earned one point on a kill before JU tallied six consecutive for a 21-13 control. Gabriela Roman had two straight kills, followed by an attack error, a Kylie Jacob kill, and two more attack errors. JU led 24-17, winning the set 25-17 on an attack error.

Sammie Straugsbaugh earned another double-double this season after totaling 16 digs and 11 kills. Rachell Miller matched with 16 digs as well. Alyssa Robertson recorded 11 kills and eight block assists, while Roman had nine kills, six digs, and five block assists. Kendall Courtney made eight digs with 42 set assists.

Volleyball is back tomorrow to compete against Mercer at 3 p.m
