Jacksonville, Fla. – Under the helm of first year head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin, the 2013-14 season of the Jacksonville women’s basketball team is underway. The team officially began practice on Monday with a mid-evening session.

The Dolphins are working with “new management” this season with McCuin working closely with assistant coaches Camille Collier, Darnell Haney and Brandon Rohr. This season, the Dolphins return eight letterwinners and will look to integrate five new members into the team.

JU fans should be on the lookout for sophomore Queen Alford and senior Jade Cargill. In Alford’s freshman campaign, the young guard led the team with 11.7 points while adding 6.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game en route to JU’s first Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year honor.

Forward Jade Cargill is looking to defensively dominate with a goal of leading the A-Sun in rebounds this season. Cargill started in 27 games last season, making an appearance in 29 of the 30 on the year, and led the team in rebounds and steals.

With an already stacked roster, Jacksonville is excited for the five new faces that will soon make their appearance in green and gold.  Leading the quintet is sophomore transfer LaDeyah Forte’ who will join four freshman, Kimberly Dawkins, Deja McPhee, Sherranda Reddick and Jenny Vernet.
