Volleyball Signs Two for 2014 Season
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University volleyball Head Coach Michelle Collier has added two student-athletes for next year’s 2014 season. Mackenzie Swan (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Olga Nushtayeva (Palm Coast, Fla.) are set to join the Dolphins as part of the 2014 incoming class.
Swan comes to Jacksonville from Pine Creek High School where she was a four-year starter under Head Coach Paul Waring. As a senior, the 5’10” setter helped lead the team to a 19-8 overall record, a league 3 regional championship and All-State recognition. As a junior outside hitter she was named MVP and continued her sophomore effort by leading the team in kills once more. The team was also league district champions her sophomore year. During her freshman campaign, in which the team finished 24-3 overall, as league district and regional champions, and state runner-ups, Swan was the only freshman on varsity. Swan played club volleyball for the Screaming Eagles, which finished as six-time Regional All-Stars and competed in eight straight Nationals.
At 5’11”, Nushtayeva joins the program as a freshman from Flagler Palm Coast High School where she was a four-year starter. As a senior captain, the outside hitter contributed in leading the team to its first winning record, 11-9, in years. She led the region in kills (276) and was sixth in blocks (43) and also tallied 103 digs and 35 aces. As a junior middle blocker, she once again led the region in kills (301) and was named the AAU Volleyball Academic All-American. During her sophomore year she was honored with the Outstanding Athlete of the Year Award in volleyball and as a freshman was awarded the coach’s award in volleyball. Nushtayeva played club volleyball for Florida Inland Volleyball and was an AAU Academic All-American.
