JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- History was made on Saturday afternoon at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena as the JU women’s basketball team tied its largest winning margin at home in the 74-42 bout against North Florida. For the third time in the program’s 14-year history, the Fins have defeated an opponent by 32 points; the last occurrence was on Feb. 23, 2006 versus Lipscomb (78-46).

Freshman guard Sherranda Reddick charged the Dolphins’ offense with a game-high 20 points. She also chipped in with five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Sophomore guard Queen Alford posted 15 points, four rebounds and three steals and senior guard Stephanie Edwards finished with 11 points, four rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

At the half, the Dolphins lead the Ospreys, 36-22, backed by 57 percent shooting and outstanding defense. Intermission statistics captured JU outscoring the Ospreys 16-6 in the paint and recording 21 points off of UNF turnovers.

While the Ospreys struggled to find their offensive rhythm, the Dolphins continued to set the floor aflame. Opening the second frame on a 6-0 run allowed the Fins to take a 20-point lead and they hovered around that mark for a majority of the period.

With eight minutes remaining, Alford and Reddick seemed to be unstoppable as the duo combined for 15 unanswered points over a four minute span and pushed JU’s lead to 72-40.

The Ospreys hit only six field goals in the second period and didn’t fare much better from the line as they made 7-of-17.

Paulina Zaveckaite led UNF with 10 points with a perfect 6-6 effort from the free throw line.

In total, JU defense forced 28 UNF turnovers and held the team to 31.3 percent (15-for-48) from the field. The Dolphins also recorded 16 steals with senior forward Jade Cargill posting a game-best four swipes.

In the win, Jacksonville earns another point in the River City Rumble and improves its record to 6-8 and 3-0 in the Atlantic Sun. The Dolphins return to Swisher Gymnasium on Jan. 16 to face Lipscomb. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
