River City Rumble: Act 2 Scene 1
In round two of the River City Rumble, the Jacksonville University women’s basketball team travels down 295 for a 4:30 p.m. contest against North Florida on Saturday, Feb. 8.
The Dolphins hold an 11-8 all-time series advantage over the Ospreys. It feels like just yesterday that JU rolled past UNF 74-42 for their largest win margin of the season.
Saturday’s contest will be UNF’s Play 4 Kay game. In honor of breast cancer awareness month the Dolphins will sport pink sneakers and jerseys. Fans in attendance are encouraged to wear pink as well.
The 2014 Play 4Kay initiative is an opportunity for a nation of coaches to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
JU’S LAST OUTING: HOME SWEET HOME?
USC Upstate spoiled JU’s perfect home record as they defeated the Fins by a score of 66-58 at Veterans Memorial Arena last Saturday. Trailing by 23 at one point, the Dolphins made a run at the end of the game to close the gap to four but couldn’t complete the comeback.
EDWARDS’ NUMBERS IMPROVE AS THE SEASON PROGRESSES
Senior guard Stephanie Edwards is playing her best basketball this season. In the past few games she has surpassed her career-high in both points and steals. Against the Spartans, she recorded a career-high six steals.
The Ospreys (5-14, 1-7) have had a few offensive woes this season. The team posts around 54.5 points per game which is ranked last in the Atlantic Sun.
Junior guard Destinee Smith leads the Ospreys in scoring, assists, and steals with 11.1 PPG, 2.2 APG and .9 SPG.
