Sand Volleyball Loses Two at UNF Invite

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University sand volleyball team competed against Georgia State and South Carolina on Saturday at the two-day UNF Sand Volleyball Tournament, falling 3-2 in both matches.

Jacksonville’s No. 1 pair of Sammie Strausbaugh and Taylor Nyquist beat Georgia State 18-21, 21-16 and 15-9, while the No. 5 duo of Alyssa Robertson and Jizzian Gesualdo won 11-21, 21-16 and 15-13.

JU’s No. 2 pairing of Kendall Courtney and Niatha Cullen lost 15-21, 21-19 and 15-11, No. 3 Gabriela Roman and Mayara Prestes fell 21-16 and 21-18, and No. 4 Emily Laskelle and Hannah McMahon lost 21-13 and 21-6.

Against South Carolina, Strausbaugh and Nyquist won their second match of the day, sweeping 21-12 and 21-13, while No. 4 Laskelle and Prestes won 16-21, 21-15 and 15-12.

No. 2 Courtney and Cullen lost 28-26, 17-21 and 15-11, No. 3 Roman and Rachel Miller lost 22-20 and 21-13, and No. 5 Gesualdo and Robertson fell 21-19, 19-21 and 15-6.

Jacksonville concludes competition on Sunday, March 9, facing Florida State (10:30 a.m.) and FAU (1:30 p.m.).
