Women’s Rowing Opens Spring Schedule at the Keuper Cup

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The JU women’s rowing team opened up its spring schedule Saturday, competing against Florida Tech and Grand Valley State at Canal-54.

“The women are slowly but surely becoming good racers,” said Head Coach Jim Mitchell. “We are rowing pretty well but must continue to hone our racing skills. We had some decent results today but expect to find a lot more speed during the next couple of weeks, especially during our spring break training camp.”

With a time of 8:10.2, the Freshmen/Novice 4 crew earned the program’s sole first place finish. The boat Shirley was coxed by Lauren Whetzel and included Danielle Keeler, Casey Sandorf, Veronika Stasaityte and Stefanie Keeler.

The third Varsity 8 boat of Monica Hakun (Coxswain), Sydney Warpness, Jenna Holt, Nicole Samek, Rebecca Clark, Casey Sandorf, Jen Pavlik, Renee Pharis and Blake Middleton finished 39.0 seconds behind GVSU with a time of 8:02.0 to place second in the two crew race.
