A new season for Jacksonville begins this weekend as the Dolphins travel to Lipscomb for the start of Atlantic Sun Confernece play. The three game series begins on Friday at 6:00 pm CST followed by two nine innings games in a double header on
Saturday at 2:00 pm.
Coming off back-to-back one run losses to #17 Indiana and the College of Charleston, Jacksonville is looking to wipe the slate clean and make a run at the 2014 A-Sun Championship. Lipscomb enters this weekend riding an eight game winning streak and leads the A-Sun with a .299 team batting average and 107 walks in 18 games.
Starting things off on the mound Friday night will be LHP Josh Baker (1-0). Baker earned his first collegiate win last Friday going 6.2 innings in a 4-3 win over #17 Indiana. He leads the Dolphins and ranks third in the A-Sun with a 1.31 ERA this season. Lipscomb is countering with Ian Martinez-McGraw, who is 1-1 with a 4.82 ERA this spring. He allowed six runs on six hits in six innings to earn his first win over the year over Oakland last Friday.
On Saturday RHP Alex McRae (1-3) will start for Jacksonville. McRae owns 22 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched this season, posting a 5.09 ERA. RHP Hunter Brothers will make his third start in five apperances for Lipscomb. Brotheres comes in with an 8.36 ERA and a 0-0 record in 14 innings pitched.
RHP Justin Russell (2-1) is set to start the final game for Jacksonville opposite RHP Denton Norman for the Bison. Russell has been a part of two shutouts in four starts this season. He owns a 4.91 ERA in 18.1 innings pitched. Last time out vs #17 Indiana he went 4.1 innings allowing four runs, three earned. Norman is 2-1 with a 2.14 ERA in four starts covering 21.0 innings. He allowed four hits and two runs in six innings of a 7-2 Lipscomb win over Oakland last Sunday.
Sophomore Connor Marabell leads the Dolphins and ranks fifth in the A-Sun with a .373 average. After hitting .667 in the series last week vs #17 Indiana he added a double against Charleston on Tuesday to extend his team best hitting streak to nine straight games. Senior Scott Schaub has been just as impressive at the plate hitting safley in all six games he has started this season. In the last six games Schaub has recorded three multi-RBI games and four multi-hit games. He is batting .500 (10-for-20) this year. Leadoff man Angelo Amendolare is coming off a two-hit game against Charleston on Tuesday. He has reched base safely in each of the last 13 games.
