PINEHURST, N.C. – Through tough conditions on Sunday, the Jacksonville University women’s golf team carded a team score of 300 at Pinehurst #1, rising from seventh after the first round to fourth at the conclusion of the Pinehurst Challenge. Due to the unrelenting rain, the third round of the event was cancelled.

Juniors Jessica Welch and Natalie Schmett paced the Dolphins on the day, with each recording a round of 74. Welch ended the tournament in a tie for 11th place, while Schmett tied for 15th overall. Morgan Matchett added a 75 to close in a tie for 19th place. Freshman Megan Collins had set her lowest round to date yesterday with an 80, then easily outdid herself with a 77 today to end the tournament in a tie for 28th. Sabrina Rumbaugh closed out in a tie for 67th after shooting an 83. Jacksonville’s score of 300 was the second-best on the day, with only team champion College of Charleston managing to go lower.

Jacksonville closes out the month next week, competing in the Cincinnati Plantation Inn Intercollegiate. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played at the Plantation Inn & Golf Resort in Crystal River, Fla. from March 21-23.
