DeLand, Fla. – It’s spring break at Jacksonville University and while students are setting up for fun in the sun, JU’s women’s rowing is gearing up to hit the water. On Saturday, March 22, the program will take a trip to DeLand to compete against fellow Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference members Stetson and Drake. Racing will begin at 9 a.m. and finishes at 11:30 a.m.
Waking up in the wee hours of the morning to make 7 a.m. practice on the St. John’s River, this last week has been all about training for the Dolphins. Four different crews will be rowing for JU with a Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8 and two Freshmen/Novice 4 boats.
The upcoming 2000 meter race on Lake Beresford will show the squad how they stack up against league competition. In a month’s time JU will travel to Mercer Lake, N.J. for the MAAC Championship and the winner of the race will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA regatta.
Next up, Jacksonville will be back in action on Saturday, March 29 as they host Florida at the Negaard Rowing Center.
