T&F Opens Outdoor Season with Four Individual Wins

ORLANDO, Fla. – Jacksonville University track & field opened its 2014 outdoor season with four individual wins at the UCF Black & Gold Challenge on Saturday, March 22.

Kaitlyn Taylor, Svenja Meyer and Shanique Walker each highlighted with wins.

“We had some exceptional performances for a first meet of the season,” Head Coach Ron Grigg said. “Yet we still have plenty to work on moving forward.”

Taylor won the triple jump with a leap of 12.24m (40-02.00), Meyer won the 1500-meter run in 4:38.22 minutes, and Shanique Walker won the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Walker won in 13.57 seconds, besting UCF’s Devinn Cartwright in second (14.14 seconds). Tatiana Wolfe earned third (14.35 seconds). Walker also won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.87 minutes while Wolfe again placed third (1:05.00).

Katy Solis and Caitlin Marino followed Meyer in the 1500-meter run in 4:50.95 for third and 4:59.89 for fifth.

Courtney Walker earned second in the 100-meter dash in 11.94 seconds. UCF’s J’Nea Ballamy won in 11.75 seconds. Shadaey Campbell was seventh (12.12 seconds) and Chynna Monica Chung was ninth (12.81 seconds).

Shanique Walker, Courtney Walker, Stormm Phillips and Shadaey Campbell finished second in the 4x100-meter relay in 44.84 seconds, just behind UCF’s winning time of 44.45 seconds.

In the discus throw, Kree Clark and Samantha Turner placed second and third, respectively, tossing 46.20m (151-07) and 45.13m (148-01). Sally Marie Futch finished sixth (42.95m, 140-11).

Futch placed fourth in the hammer throw (49.28m, 161-08), Clark finished ninth (46.04m, 151-00) and Turner tossed 43.92m (144-01) for 11th.

In the 200-meter dash, Jacksonville placed fifth, eighth, 19th and 21st. Courtney Walker crossed in 24.30 seconds, Shadaey Campbell in 24.93 seconds, Chung in 26.15 seconds, and Phillips in 26.34 seconds.

In the shot put, Turner earned third (13.73m, 45-00.50), in the high jump, Tia Smith earned fourth (1.58m), and in the 400-meter dash Phillips placed 10th (58.71 seconds).

Next, Jacksonville will compete at the UNF Invite in Jacksonville on March 28.
