Second Straight Walk-Off Win for Fins
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University softball earned its second straight walk-off win against Kennesaw State to finish 2-for-3 over the weekend with its second consecutive 4-3 victory.
Jacksonville improves to 14-20 overall and 5-9 in the Atlantic Sun. KSU drops to 18-17 and 7-5, respectively.
Emily Sanchez blasted an RBI walk-off single to deep right center field that plated Victoria Brown from first base for Jacksonville’s 4-3 win in seven innings.
KSU opened the game with three runs on three hits and one error in the top of the first inning. Sara Sikes led off with a single, advanced to second base on Taylor Denton’s hit by pitch and scored the game’s first run on Courtney Sutter’s RBI double to left field. Megan Veringa hit an RBI ground ball to the right side that scored Denton from third base and advanced Sutter to third base, while Kara Chambers then reached on a fielder's choice, advanced to second on an error by Codi Kelly and Sutter scored.
Brown recorded her third home run in two days to put the Fins in the game in the bottom of the first frame, hitting an RBI shot to right center field for a 3-2 game. Brown hit two home runs in JU's double-header on Sunday, including Jacksonville’s walk-off winner in the eighth inning.
Charli Bradshaw added to the home run column with her second long ball in two days, smacking a solo shot to left field in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game 3-all.
JU tallied four runs on nine hits and one error while KSU garnered three runs on seven hits.
In the circle, Brown earned her seventh win of the season, tossing 6.2 innings of relief where she struck out three and allowed just four hits. KSU’s Paige Mathews (3-8) allowed four runs (four earned) on nine hits and one walk. Mathews also fanned five.
Next, Jacksonville will travel down the road to face North Florida April 5-6.
