JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On another day with tough playing conditions, the Jacksonville University women’s golf team managed a score of 305 to end the Web.com Intercollegiate in a tie for 13th place out of a field of 19 teams. Play early on in the day was defined by rain and mud, as a slight delay was needed before teams were sent out onto the course. After the rain moved out, the breeze picked up and sent scores skyrocketing nearly across the board.

It was Morgan Matchett who led the Dolphins in Tuesday’s final round. The junior improved in each of the three rounds, carding a 73 after shooting rounds of 75 and 74 on Monday. She ended in a tie for 22nd place, while Jessica Welch ended her tournament with a 79 to finish in a tie for 22nd.

Rounding out the scoring for JU were Megan Collins, who shot a 78 and ended in a tie for 78th, and Natalie Schmett, who ended her tournament with her best round of the week with a 75 to place in a tie for 82nd. Sabrina Rumbaugh managed an 81 and also ended in a tie for 82nd.

Florida State claimed the overall team title by 24 strokes, ending with a team score of 851 (-13). East Carolina was in second place at 875 (+11). The Seminoles also had the individual medalist at the event, with Matilda Castren shooting under 70 in all three rounds and ending at 204 (-12).

Jacksonville concludes the regular season next week, competing at the Atlantic Sun Championship at the Pine Lakes Golf Course on Jekyll Island in Georgia. The Dolphins and the other nine A-Sun programs will be action from April 14 through 16 in the 54-hole event.
