JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University softball dropped a non-conference contest to Florida A&M on Wednesday, April 9, falling 7-3 to stand 14-24 overall.
FAMU opened with two runs in the top of the first and second innings for a 4-0 advantage before JU trailed by just one run at 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
In the bottom of the third frame Sable Lee plated on Lexie Ballard’s RBI single to right center while Codi Kelly scored on Emily Sanchez’s RBI single through the left side. Lee initially singled up the middle and advanced to second base on Kelly’s single to left center field. In the fourth inning, Charli Bradshaw led off with her fourth home run of the season with a long ball to left field.
But, FAMU tacked on three runs in the top of the seventh inning to stretch its lead to 7-3 and the Rattlers eventually won.
JU earned three runs on eight hits, while FAMU recorded seven runs on six hits and one error.
Jessi Walker (2-4) allowed four runs (three earned) on two hits and one walk. Taylor Rossman, tossing 6.0 innings of relief, allowed three runs (three earned) on four hits while fanning four.
Next, Jacksonville will return to A-Sun action this weekend to host FGCU beginning with a double-header on Saturday.
