Jacksonville Nets 10 with All-Atlantic Honors
Derner announced as Player of the Year; Orashen tagged as Defensive Player of the Year

MACON, Ga. – Jacksonville University’s women’s lacrosse squad highlighted the  2014 regular season with 10 players receiving All-Atlantic Sun honors. Along with the  all-league selections, Morgan Derner was announced as the Player of the Year and Brittney Orashen was named the Defensive Player of the Year.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Dolphins have been crowned conference regular season champions.

FIRST TEAM ALL-ATLANTIC SUN SELECTIONS

Taylor McCord (Junior | Jacksonville, Fla. | Attack) – Appeared in 15 games … Second on the team in goals (28) and first in assists (22) … Tied for 45th in the nation in assists and 43rd for assists per game (1.38)

Kelsey Wiglesworth (Sophomore | Towson, Md. | Midfielder) – … Played in 14 games … Scored JU’s first goal of the season against Syracuse

Kaylee Quint (Senior | Lake Mary, Fla. | Defender) – Played in all 17 games … Third on team in caused turnovers

Chelsea Watts (Senior | West Long Beach, N.J. | Defender) -  Appeared in 16 games … Second on team in collected ground balls (27), draw controls (31) and caused turnovers (15)

PLAYER OF THE YEAR & FIRST TEAM SELECTION


Derner will be a fixture in JU’s record book for years to come with high ranks in points, goals and assists. She will soon graduate with a degree in biology and has etched her name in JU’s program history as the current all-time point (212) and goal leader (172). She is also ranked third all-time in assists with 40.

Morgan Derner (Senior |Lake Mary, Fla. | Biology)- Appeared in 16 games … Led JU in scoring with 41 goals … Career stat line of 172 goals, 39 assists, 63 ground balls, 49 caused turnovers and 18 draws

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR & FIRST TEAM SELECTION

Named JU’s Most Valuable Midfielder at the end of last season, Orashen’s stellar play has spanned all three years she’s been at Jacksonville. She closed the regular season out with 73 goals, 21 assists, 125 draws, 98 ground balls and 61 caused turnovers. Next year she will be pursuing an MBA but in a week’s time she will earn a degree in marketing.

Brit Orashen (Senior | Lebanon, N.J. |Midfielder)-  Appeared in all 17 games … Directed JU in draws (41) and caused turnovers (25) … Ranked 34th in the nation in caused turnovers

SECOND TEAM ALL-ATLANTIC SUN SELECTIONS

Ali Hoffman (Senior | Gambrills, Md. | Attack) – Played in all 17 games … Third on team in goals scored with 24 … Atlantic Sun Scholar Athlete of the Year

Jess Worcester (Junior | LaPlata, Md. | Midfielder) – Appeared in 13 games … Second on team in controlled draws (26)

ATLANTIC SUN FRESHMEN TEAM


Danielle Della Rocca ( Mt. Sinai, N.Y.| Attack) - Appeared in 19 games … Led all  JU freshmen with 19 goals and six assists

Kristin Ridenour (Alpharetta, Ga. | Defender) - Played in 15 games … Recorded 10 draws and eight caused turnovers

The Dolphins will host the inaugural A-Sun Tournament on May 2-4. No. 1 JU faces fourth seeded Stetson on Friday at 1:00 pm followed by Elon and Detroit at 3:30 pm. The championship game will be held on Sunday at 12 p.m.

All games will be played at Southern Oak Stadium and will be broadcast on A-Sun TV.
