Women’s Lacrosse to Play Denver in Opening Round of the NCAAs
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville women’s lacrosse team is headed to the NCAA Tournament! Hours after winning their second Atlantic Sun championship, the Dolphins were selected for an opening round matchup with Denver to be held on Friday, May 9 in Gainesville, Fla. The winner of the game will then face No. 4 Florida on May 11.
“We are really excited to be playing Denver,” said the Atlantic Sun Player of the Year Morgan Derner. “We were hoping to so that we could get a little bit of redemption. We are just really excited to be in this position. It feels awesome to be heading back to the NCAAs for the second year in a row, especially as a senior. We just want to end the season as strong as we can and we are definitely more confident in this second chance.”
Last season, the Dolphins played the then No. 13 Denver in the first round of the NCAAs. JU crowned its memorable 2013 season with a 14-7 loss to the Pioneers.
Jacksonville (14-5, 5-0 A-Sun) earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by winning the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament with an 18-4 victory over Detroit on Sunday afternoon – the program’s second straight trip to the Dance at the expense of the Titans.
