Varsity Eights Move on for Women’s Rowing at Dad Vail Regatta
PHILADELPHIA – Coming across the line in a time of 6:41.038, the varsity eights boat for the Jacksonville University women’s rowing team earned a top-two finish in its heat on Friday at the Dad Vail Regatta and will be back out on the Schuylkill River on Saturday morning looking for more.
Paired with Cleveland State, Duquesne, Fairfield and La Salle in its heat, the Dolphins outpaced everyone but Duquesne to advance to a semifinal heat. Jacksonville’s eight will race at 10:05 a.m. on Saturday against Bucknell, Delaware, Drexel, Middlebury and UConn. The top two finishers in that race will qualify for the grand final; the third and fourth place teams will move on to the petite final on Saturday afternoon.
Elsewhere on Friday, the varsity fours finished sixth in its heat with a time of 7:52.710. In one of the final races of the day, Jacksonville’s junior varsity eights placed fifth in its heat in 6:57.180. Neither finish advances those boats onto Saturday.
Though JU will have a quiet final day at the Dad Vail, all its teams will be back on the water at the end of the month at the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis.
