Three Dolphins Named to All-Academic Team
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Three Jacksonville University track and field student-athletes were named to the 2014 Women’s Track & Field All-Academic team, the Atlantic Sun Conference announced on Wednesday, May 28.
Senior Svenja Meyer and sophomores Kree Clark and Samantha Turner were each voted to the All-Academic Team, with Clark being named the Women’s Track & Field Scholar Athlete.
Clark, an Accounting major with a 3.85 GPA, won the hammer throw at the A-Sun Outdoor Championships with a school best and A-Sun record 54.85m (179' 11"), breaking the 10-year-old conference record, and also won the discus throw (50.98m, 167' 03"). Clark also placed seventh in the shot put with 12.54m (41' 1.75"), 15th in the javelin and recorded 22 total team points. She is ranked 17th in the East in the discus and 53rd in the hammer. Clark was named the A-Sun Women's Outdoor Field Performer of the Week three times (April 2, April 23 and May 14) during the outdoor season.
Meyer, an Accounting and International Business graduate with a 3.92 GPA, placed second of 12 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:35.22) at the A-Sun Outdoor Championships and also earned second in the 5,000-meter run (16:58.89). Meyer also set a school record and the fastest time in the A-Sun in the 3k steeplechase by winning the Florida Relays. At the UNF Spring Break Open she set a school record in the 5k and earned the third fastest time in the A-Sun this season by winning the UNF Spring Break open. At the historic Penn Relays she set a school record and the fastest time in the A-Sun by finishing sixth in the 10k. She also recorded the seventh fastest time in the 1,500-meter run, which she won at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge. Meyer is a double All-Conference performer by finishing second in both the 3k steeplechase and the 5k at the A-Sun Conference Championships, scoring 16 team points. She is ranked 28th in the steeplechase and 42nd in the 10k in the NCAA East region. Meyer was also named the A-Sun Women's Outdoor Track Performer of the Week on April 9.
Turner, a Marketing major with a 3.90 GPA, won the shot put at the A-Sun Outdoor Championships with a school and A-Sun record toss of 14.70m (48' 2.75"). Turner also placed second in the discus throw (47,83m, 156' 11"), fourth in the hammer throw with 47.90m (157’ 02”) and 14th in the javelin to tally 23 team points. Turner earned eight top-five finishes during the regular-season in various events, including a discus win at the North Florida Invitational. She is ranked 57th in the East in both the shot put and the discus. She was named the A-Sun Women's Outdoor Field Performer of the Week on April 30.
