Schaub Selected Capital One Second Team Academic All-American
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior infielder Scott Schaub (Ocala, Fla.) has been named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-American Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Schaub, who graduated this spring with a degree in exercise science, ended the season with a team best .407 average becoming the 50th player in Atlantic Sun history to surpass the .400 plateau for a single season. He was the first Dolphin to do so since Third Round MLB Draft Pick Adam Brett Walker II did so in 2011.
The First Team All-Atlantic Sun third baseman had a season to remember for Jacksonville recording a team high 47 RBI and hitting over .500 with runners in scoring position. He currently ranks 5th in the nation with the .407 average and is also 10th nationally with a .490 on base percentage.
The season marks the four time in the last six years the JU baseball program has had an Academic All-American selection. Dan Gulbransen was recognized on the first team in 2012 and the second team in 2011. Jeremy Gillian was a first teamer in 2009 while Matt Dobbins was named to the third team in 2006.
