FSU Seminoles Sweep Dolphins, 3-0

October 19, 1999

Jacksonville, Fla. - The Florida State Seminoles (8-13) recorded a three game sweep (15-12, 15-2, 15-9) of the Jacksonville University Dolphins (10-9) at Jacksonville's Swisher Gymnasium on Tuesday night. Despite the loss, the Dolphins remain one win above the .500 mark for the year.

The height of the Seminoles proved to be a deciding factor, allowing the Seminole offense to thrive against a much shorter Jacksonville team. Combined with the top-notch timing of freshman setter Jamie Hibbard, who tallied 35 assists, 6-2 senior Aisha Thornton pounded a team-high 16 kills. Junior Jennifer Werrick (6-0) and freshman Erica Bunch (6-2) used height and strength to contribute to the high-powered FSU offense, with 11 and 10 kills respectively. The Dolphins' Kelly Hickam led the team's defense with nine digs, and Ericka Rutzebeck followed closely behind, digging seven of the Seminoles' strong scoring efforts.

The Dolphins' big hitters, Kelly Hickam and Carrie Arago, registered nine and 12 kills respectively. Sophomore setter Carrie Bosworth accounted for 35 assists in addition to her six kills for the match. Combating JU's offense, the Seminoles' posted a strong defense, with three players reaching double digits in the dig category. Werrick and senior Kensy Zulueta each had 10 digs, while Hibbard earned 12 digs for the match.

The Dolphins will return to action on Saturday, October 23rd at 7:00 P.M. when they host a non-conference opponent, Appalachian State, in Swisher Gymnasium.
