JU Downs JSU 3-1 In TAAC Volleyball

Jacksonville, Fla. - Jacksonville University (14-10, 6-1) celebrated senior night and homecoming in style Saturday night as they wrapped up a first round bye in the upcoming Trans America Athletic Conference volleyball tournament with a 3-1 (15-13, 9-15, 15-9, 15-11) victory over Jacksonville State (13-16, 3-6). Sophomore setter Carrie Bosworth continued her outstanding play, posting her fifth triple-double of the season as the Dolphins won their fourth out of their last five matches.
For the second straight night, the Dolphins got a career-high kill performance from junior Tiffany Twaddle as five JU players recorded double-digit kills in a well balanced attack. Sophomore Carrie Arago (Longwood, Fla.) had a match-high 19 kills, while Twaddle and Bosworth added 15 and 12 respectively. Senior Kelly Hickam and junior Juanita Barb (Sarasota, Fla.) recorded 11 kills each for JU.
On a night honoring the Dolphin seniors (Hickam, Lindsay Schriever and Ericka Rutzebeck), Schriever (Coral Springs, Fla.) posted a season-high nine kills while adding five assists, five digs and three block assists. Bosworth completed her triple-double for the Dolphins with a match-high 60 assists and 12 digs. Hickam, among the top five all-time in career digs at JU, recorded 16 digs in her final home match in a Dolphin uniform.
Jacksonville State was led by juniors Kelby Rumph (16) and Heather Beers (12) who combined for 28 of JSU's 52 team kills. Senior setter Jenni Williamson (Tallahassee, Fla.) recorded 41 assists for the Lady Gamecocks, while Rumph added a team-high 18 digs. The Lady Gamecock back-to-back losses to Steston and JU eliminates Jacksonville State from the 1999 TAAC Tournament.
Jacksonville will return to action on Thursday November 11th at 7:00 P.M. when they take on Mercer in Macon, Ga. The Dolphins will complete the 1999 regular season on the road at Georgia State on November 13th, match time 7:00 P.M.
