Volleyball Picked Fourth in TAAC Preseason Poll

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University volleyball team has been picked to finish fourth in the Trans America Athletic Conference, according to a preseason poll released today.

After finishing 15-12 last season, including a second-place finish in the TAAC with a 7-2 conference record, the Dolphins were slated behind preseason favorite UCF, Florida Atlantic and Georgia State.

UCF, also picked to win the TAAC Tournament Championship, received 87 points in the poll, including four first-place votes. FAU finished one point higher than Georgia State with 79, with the Owls receiving two first-place votes and the Lady Panthers getting three first-place votes.

JU was next with 63 points, followed by Samford (37), Stetson and Troy State (35), Campbell (17) and Mercer (14).

The Dolphins open the regular season on Sept. 1 when they travel to Statesboro, Ga., to take part in the Georgia Southern Invitational. JU's first home match of the 2000 season is on Wednesday, Sept. 6 against Bethune-Cookman at 7:30 p.m. in Swisher Gymnasium.
