Volleyball Team Picks Up First Win Of 2000 Season

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Jacksonville University volleyball team picked up its first win of the 2000 season Saturday afternoon, defeating UNC-Asheville in a 3-0 shutout (15-8, 17-15, 15-8) at the Georgia Southern Invitational.

Four Dolphins had 10 or more kills in the win, including freshman Kelly Ryals (Gainesville, Fla.) who had a match-high 20 to go along with 16 digs.

Junior setter Carrie Bosworth (Centreville, Mass.) recorded her first triple-double of the season with 52 assists, 17 digs and 12 kills. Other Dolphins with double-digit kill totals were senior middle hitters Brooke Jackson (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) with 13 and Tiffany Twaddle (Dallas, Texas) with 11.

As a team, JU recorded a .318 attack percentage and held UNC-Ashville to just .192, blocking 21 of the Bulldogs' attacks. Jackson led the team with seven total blocks while Twaddle had four, including three solos.

The Dolphins return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 5, when they open their home schedule against in-state rival Bethune-Cookman College at Swisher Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
