Volleyball Falls To Florida State In Tallahassee, 3-0

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University volleyball team dropped its first match since Sept. 2 when the Dolphins fell to Florida State 15-3, 15-6, 15-8, Wednesday night in Tully Gym.

The Dolphins dropped to 2-3 on the year while FSU improved to 8-1 for the season and a perfect 6-0 at home. The Seminoles dominated throughout the contest and recorded a .440 attack percentage while holding JU to just .087.

Freshman Radka Dimitrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) led the Dolphins with eight kills while fellow freshman Kelly Ryals (Gainesville, Fla.) paced JU with six digs. Junior Carrie Bosworth (Centreville, Mass.) had a team-high 14 assists and three block assists in the loss.

JU scored the first points of the contest to take a 1-0 lead in game one, but FSU would rattle back with 12 unaswered points to set the pace for the rest of the contest. The Dolphins kept it close in game two, trailing just 7-5 midway through the game. But the Seminoles would outscore the JU 8-1 the rest of the way to take a 2-0 lead into intermission.

JU led 5-4 in game three, but FSU once again would respond with a 7-1 run and would eventually win the third and deciding game 15-8.

Florida State's Norisha Campbell led all players with 16 kills, while Alex Sevillano finished with 12. Jennifer Werrick paced the Seminole squad in digs with eight while Jamie Hibbard had a match-high 33 assists.

The Dolphins return to action Friday, Sept. 15 when they travel to Rhode Island to participate in the Brown University Tournament. JU takes on Princeton and La Salle on Friday before battling St. Peter's and host Brown on Saturday. JU's next home match is Friday, Sept. 22, when the Dolphin's take on Stetson at 7:30 p.m. in Swisher Gymnasium.
